Steve offers more than 33 years of experience managing a broad spectrum of work, ranging from publicly funded in-fill housing projects, to large-scale high-rise and mixed-use planned developments.
As senior project architect, Steve has played a leadership role in projects that have positively shaped and revitalized many urban neighborhoods in Chicago and the suburbs. Recent work includes; Oakley Square Apartments; a complete rehabilitation and renovation of an existing mixed-housing complex on Chicago’s Near West Side which provides 247 fully reappointed affordable housing units and amenity space for community and outreach functions, Cornerstone Apartments; part of an infill development of mixed-income apartments in the arts community of Washington Park on Chicago’s South Side, and Emerson Square; an award-winning two-phase redevelopment of a 5-acre former brownfield site that provides 60 new homes and apartments in Evanston.
Major work outside of Illinois includes; Buckhead, Atlanta; a multi-parcel, $700 million mixed-use development encompassing commercial, retail, and residential components in Georgia, and River Oaks District; a new 15-acre mixed-use destination within Houston’s Uptown-Galleria neighborhood in Texas.
Steve’s early career began in Denver, Colorado, where he worked at Engle Keiding Design Associates as an intern while attending undergraduate school. Shortly after earning his undergraduate degree, he returned to Chicago where he resumed his education and worked as a project designer on a variety of commercial assignments at MPS, Inc. He later expanded his experience at A.M. Kinney Associates in Evanston, Illinois, as project architect/designer for large corporate research facilities before joining Pappageorge Haymes Partners in 1987.
